Who leads the Eliteserien going into Sunday?
Viking lead the Eliteserien, but only on goals scored. According to the official Eliteserien table (1 November 2026), both sides have won 19, drawn 2 and lost 4. Viking's goal tally reads 64–26, Glimt's 61–23 – both +38.
Glimt drew level on Friday 30 October by beating Viking 3–2 at Aspmyra in what was billed as the title decider. Our preview of the Aspmyra title showdown looked at the science of cold and artificial turf. Before that game Viking had 59 points and Glimt 56. The first meeting, in April at Lyse Arena, ended 5–0 to Viking.
Behind the leading pair, Molde and Rosenborg had 43 points each as of 1 November, 16 points adrift. Tromsø were fifth on 40 points at that point.
Can Bodø/Glimt win the title on Sunday 8 November?
No. After round 26 there are four rounds left, worth a maximum of 12 points. To be certain of the title with four games to go, Glimt would need a lead of more than 12 points – and the two sides are level. On the arithmetic, the earliest the title can be settled is round 28 at the end of November, and it may well go to the final day on 13 December.
If the teams finish level on points and goal difference, goals scored separates them – which is why Viking sit top right now.
What is left in the fixture list for Glimt and Viking?
According to the Eliteserien fixture list, there are no league games between 8 and 20 November. Both clubs still have to visit Tromsø and Molde.

Is the Tromsø match played in the dark?
Effectively, yes. According to sun data from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the sun rises in Tromsø at 08:45 today and sets at 14:08. It never climbs more than 3.7 degrees above the horizon. In Bodø the sun sets at 14:55 the same day – 47 minutes later.
When Viking visit Tromsø on Saturday 21 November, sunset is at 12:52, more than an hour before the 14:00 kick-off. MET Norway's data show 27 November as the last day with any sun in Tromsø before the polar night, with just 20 minutes of it.

Will three games in ten days wear Glimt down?
The research suggests running capacity holds up, but injury risk rises. In a study in the American Journal of Sports Medicine (2010), Grégory Dupont and colleagues – including Ulrik Wisløff of NTNU – followed 32 players at a Champions League club over two seasons.
Total distance, high-intensity running and sprints did not change between one-game and two-game weeks. The injury rate, however, was 25.6 injuries per 1,000 hours in two-game weeks against 4.1 in one-game weeks. The authors concluded that 72–96 hours of recovery is enough to maintain performance but not to keep injuries down – hence squad rotation.
It is an observational study of a single club, so it cannot tell us what will happen to Glimt today. It does explain why coaches juggling European football rotate. We covered several of the same mechanisms before the away game in Naples.
How does air travel affect football performance?
For a hop from Bodø to Tromsø, probably very little. Both cities are in the same time zone, so Glimt face ordinary travel fatigue rather than jet lag. An analysis of every match in Australia's A-League from 2005/06 to 2011/12, published in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport (2014), found that home teams took 58 per cent of the points.
Home advantage grew with the number of time zones the visitors had crossed. Travel distance and direction had no independent link with home advantage.
A second Australian study, in the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance (2015), tracked 18 players through 27 matches. Domestic away travel had “negligible cumulative effects” on player wellness across the second half of the season.
Does the polar night affect sleep and form?
It shifts the body clock more than it shortens sleep. Researchers from the universities of Tromsø and Bergen compared Tromsø with Accra in Ghana in the Journal of Sleep Research (2012). Only in Tromsø did they find a seasonal pattern: lack of daylight was linked to later bed and rising times, more trouble falling asleep, more daytime tiredness and lower mood.
Total sleep time and sleep quality, however, appeared unaffected. The study looked at ordinary residents, not athletes, and we have found no research measuring how the polar night affects football results. Both of today's teams are, in any case, based in northern Norway.
